Dave Rogers and Liam Cooper will coach the England team against Scotland and Wales in this year’s Homeless Rugby CIC International Cup, at Sixways Stadium on May 20th.
The pair have worked together previously with the Worcester Warriors / WYMCA squad, the first Homeless Rugby team in Britain, which has been running since 2014. The England squad will be made up of a combination of players from Worcester and our newest team from Wimbledon / SW London YMCA.
“It’s a tremedous honour to coach the England squad in this year’s Homeless Rugby CIC International Cup,” said Rogers. “It’s really exciting to see how far the project has developed since 2014 and I know that our players are really motivated by the opportunity to play as an England team. Last year was a fantastic occasion and we are all looking forward to seeing how we perform on May 20th.”
“It’s a massive privilege to be named as Assistant coach of the England homeless touch rugby team,” Cooper added, ” I have seen first-hand how the efforts of Homeless Rugby can inspire someone to break the mould of the predicament they’re in and strive for more. In previous years of working within the homeless rugby organisation the focus has been about participation and engagement so it will be brilliant to give the focus back to rugby and select a strong squad to run out against the other nations. ”
